About Jiangjun Paozi (General's Lake)
The lake here has an open expanse of water, surrounded on all sides by mountains, making it an ideal spot for photographing sunset glow. Every day just after 6:00 p.m., a large herd of horses gallops to the lake to drink, and the splashes as they enter the water are stunning. When night falls, spend a night in a yurt beside the lake, sit around a campfire, and listen to the stirring, rising and falling strains of Mongolian long-song. It is an unforgettable experience.
Tips from the guidebook
- Self-drive routes: Chifeng has two classic self-drive routes, the Dada Line and the Rea Line. The Dada Line starts at beautiful Dalinor Lake and ends at Arshihaty Stone Forest. It crosses the enchanting Gongger Grassland and passes through the sandy spruce forests of Baiyin Aobao. The route offers a bright blue sky, clouds within reach, and mountain-wide herds of cattle and sheep, making for beautiful scenery. The Rea Line starts at Reshuitang Town and ends at Asihatu. It passes through Huanggangliang Forest Park, where the scenery is more varied than typical grassland: forest farms, pastoral areas and grasslands, all looking like an oil painting.
