About Daguan Tower
First built during the Kangxi reign of the Qing dynasty, the park takes its name from its position facing Dianchi Lake, with the Western Hills in the distance, offering sweeping views of lake and mountains. The most prized sight is the Daguan Tower, built beside the water. It has three storeys and displays many fine plaques and couplets. The 180-character couplet by the Qing-era scholar Sun Ranweng hangs on the pillars on either side of the water-facing door and is known as 'the finest long couplet in ancient and modern times'.
