## Informazioni su Maolan National Nature Reserve

The discovery of the Maolan karst forest changed the way the world sees karst, from monotonous grey to vibrant green, earning it the name “the green gem on the belt of the Earth.” It is China's largest subtropical primeval forest, home to many rare tree species and wild animals.
Hiking across the entire forest takes three days. There are no places offering food or lodging locally, so visitors must bring their own food, sleeping bags and tents.

- 1. Food: The most worthwhile experience here is a farmhouse meal. Farmhouse restaurants are found in and around Bizuo, Banzhai and Meiyuan. Free-range chicken, river fish, wild vegetables, sour meat and sour plum wine are must-tries, especially the wild vegetables, which are rare elsewhere.
- 2. Accommodation: Farmhouses offering lodging are also concentrated around Bizuo, Banzhai and Meiyuan, and conditions vary from house to house. In peak season, advance booking is necessary. Camping, for close contact with nature, is another good option.
