## About Zhujiajiao Ancient Town

The best-preserved Jiangnan water town near Shanghai. Its waterside townscape, thousand-year history, historic sites and cultural charm define Zhujiajiao. It has less commercial bustle than many other towns, so it feels fresh and relaxed.

## Tips from the guidebook

- Give yourself plenty of time. In the evening, order a pot of tea at a teahouse by Fangsheng Bridge. River seafood at small local restaurants is no worse than at the big ones; freshness is the name of the game. Visitors who have been to Zhujiajiao also recommend its zongzi (rice dumplings), whose fragrance fills the streets and is hard to forget. You'll also find zharou (braised pork), sugar-glazed lotus root and smoked yellow croaker. Just stroll down the street and you'll find everything you could want.
