## About Yangmingshan National Park

Yangmingshan National Park is known as the 'Backyard Garden of Taipei.' The park encompasses Yangmingshan itself and the volcanic cluster centred on Datun Mountain and Qixing Mountain. It is the main volcanic zone on Taiwan island, with many hot springs, fumaroles, and explosion craters. The mountain is also home to many former residences of notable figures, such as the former residence of Lin Yutang, making it a place where natural and cultural landscapes come together.
Butterflies are the most abundant and diverse animal resource in Yangmingshan National Park, with about 133 species, making it the principal butterfly-watching destination in northern Taiwan.

## Tips from the guidebook

- 1. Soak in hot springs: A visit to Yangmingshan is not complete without a hot spring soak. There are many restaurants on the mountain where you can bathe in the hot springs and sample the local cuisine.
- 2. Wild mountain cuisine: When it comes to local food, wild mountain cuisine is a must. Stir-fried mountain vegetables, sweet potato soup, and steamed yam buns are all delicious.
