## About Xiamei Village

Xiamei Village lies 8 km from Wuyi Mountain and is a provincial-level historic and cultural village in Fujian. People have lived here since the Neolithic period. During the Southern Song dynasty, the renowned Neo-Confucian philosopher Zhu Xi lectured here.
Most of the historic residences in the Xiamei complex were built during the Qianlong era. Each house's gateway is decorated with exquisite brick carvings that express wealth and grandeur. Wood carving is found mainly on the windows, where the patterns feature elegant, auspicious animals, plants and figures, and many fine window carvings remain intact in the old houses today. The finest examples are the 'Xiaofanchuan' (Little Fanchuan) in the Zou Clan Ancestral Hall and in the Zou Family Mansion. The grandest and most finely carved building in the village is the Zou Family Mansion (Zou Dafu Residence). Its hitching stone in front of the gate and the richly detailed brick carvings on its entrance reflect a strong traditional cultural character.
