## About Western Qing Tombs

The Qing Western Tombs are the burial grounds of four Qing emperors, beginning with the Yongzheng Emperor. The Yongzheng Emperor's Tailing Tomb was the earliest to be built and is also the largest. The site contains the largest ancient pine forest in North China, set in beautiful surroundings. The tomb of Puyi was later relocated to the Hualong Imperial Cemetery within the Qing Western Tombs.

## Tips from the guidebook

- 1. Hire a car: The Qing Western Tombs have four main sites (Chongling, Tailing, Changxi and Muling), so a private vehicle is generally needed to see them all. Minivans cost around ¥100.
- 2. Food: The hand-rolled noodles (手擀面) of Yixian are delicious and well worth trying.
- 3. Inkstones: Yixian's inkstones have been famous since ancient times and make collectible souvenirs.
- 4. Other attractions: Nearby sights include Langya Mountain and Zijingguan Pass, worth considering if you have extra time.
