## About Taipei 101

Taipei 101, the world-famous skyscraper in the Xinyi district, is the new landmark of Taipei City. Standing 508 metres tall, it blends classical Eastern culture with Taiwanese characteristics, and its night views are spectacular. Every year on the evening of 31 December, Taipei residents gather here to celebrate. As the countdown reaches zero, fireworks are launched floor by floor from the building, a sight both lively and spectacular. Nearby is Eslite Bookstore, Taipei's largest bookstore, which is also well worth a visit.

## Tips from the guidebook

- 1. Look up at the ceiling: When you ride the lift, be sure to look up at the ceiling. The star chart painted there spreads outward as the lift climbs, making you feel as though you are soaring into the night sky.
- 2. Explore the neighbourhood: The Xinyi shopping district and the Vieshow Cinemas near Taipei 101 can easily be visited on the same trip.
- 3. Postcards: At Taipei 101 you can send postcards to family, loved ones, or friends. There are different mailboxes for different recipients, and three matching postmarks are available for use.
