## About Shuxiang Temple

Facing the mountain gate of Tayuan Temple across the way, Shuxiang Temple is famous for housing the largest statue of Manjushri riding a lion on Mount Wutai. It is one of the best-known “blue temples” (Han Chinese Buddhist monasteries) on the mountain and one of the Five Major Chan Centres. The suspended clay sculpture of the Five Hundred Arhats Crossing the Sea along the side walls dates from the Ming dynasty. Near the temple is Prajna Spring, one of the Five Sacred Sites of Wutai. The “pure water” it provides is reserved for the living Buddhas of the yellow temples, and it still flows without interruption today.
