## About Shishapangma

Shishapangma is the only 8,000-metre peak located entirely within China. The area resembles an 'ice crystal garden', and its strange scenery has inspired many myths and songs among the Tibetan people, who revere it as an auspicious sacred mountain. Its grandeur is matched by danger: criss-crossing ice crevasses and frequent avalanches have made countless challengers hold back. As its Tibetan name suggests, it means 'extremely cold, with harsh and changeable weather'.

## Tips from the guidebook

- Not far away is Peiku Tso, where you can photograph Shishapangma reflected in the lake.
