## About Shilin Official Residence

Shilin Official Residence was where Chiang Kai-shek lived and worked during his lifetime. He formally moved in in May 1950 and lived here for 26 years. After more than 40 years of strict security, it was officially opened to the public in 1996. The residence is divided from outside to inside into the outer garden, the inner garden, and the main house. The best time to visit is when the roses are in bloom. Madame Soong Mei-ling is said to have especially loved purple roses, and the rose garden here was her favourite.
