## About Shanmu River Rafting

The Shanmu River enjoys the reputation of ‘mineral spring river’. Its water is crystal clear and emerald green, transparent right to the bottom, with mountain peaks flanking both banks and a winding course that offers thrills without real danger, making it an excellent choice for eco-tourism. The scenic area is mainly enjoyed by rafting.

## Tips from the guidebook

- 1. On moonlit summer and autumn nights, you can stay in bamboo houses beside the Shanmu River and stroll along the bank under the moon. Be sure to bring mosquito repellent, or the mosquitoes will feast on you.
- 2. The best rafting season is June to September; in October, it depends on the weather.
- 3. Walking from the main gate to the Shanmu River takes about 40 minutes, all downhill, with lovely scenery along the way. Flat sandals are recommended.
- 4. Whether or not you can swim, wear a life jacket. On sunny days, wear long sleeves and trousers over your swimwear to avoid sunburn during the roughly six-hour rafting trip, and to protect against rock cuts if the boat capsizes. If you have no rafting experience, it is best to hire a boatman, especially in the flood season.
- 5. If you want to take photos, shoot a few pictures in the calmer stretches as keepsakes. Be sure to wrap your camera in waterproof casing to keep out water, or hand it to the safety escort. It is best not to bring an expensive camera.
