## About Shanjuan Cave Scenic Area

Shanjuan Cave is a famous limestone karst cave, divided into four caverns (Upper, Middle, Lower and Water), each with different scenery, all interconnected. Stepping inside feels like entering an underground palace. In the Upper Cave, mist drifts through the air, and stalactites in all shapes and colours are strikingly beautiful.
In the Middle Cave, a lifelike stone lion rock stands guard. The Water Cave has sparkling water, unusual rocks and glowing coloured lights, like a dreamlike wonderland.

## Tips from the guidebook

- Pottery capital: Yixing is known as “the ancient capital of pottery, the world of caves, the oasis of tea and the sea of bamboo.” It is the home of Zisha (purple clay) teapots, so be sure to try making a teapot yourself.
- Yixing’s Three Wonders: The Three Wonders are three limestone karst caves in Yixing: Shanjuan Cave, Linggu Cave and Zhanggong Cave. Shanjuan Cave ranks first. Zhanggong Cave is said to be where the immortal Zhang Guolao cultivated his arts, and it has rich historical and cultural resources. Linggu Cave is celebrated for its karst wonders, including caves with mountains inside and dazzling, varied formations.
