## About Orchid Island

Orchid Island is a volcanic island off eastern Taiwan. Its coastline is lined with beaches formed from coral reefs in a striking variety of shapes, creating beautiful, relaxed scenery that is ideal for sea fishing and diving. Every year from March to July, the local Tao people hold a range of ceremonies centred on flying fish, collectively known as the Flying Fish Festival, which is well worth seeing.

## Tips from the guidebook

- Fresh seafood: One of Penghu's specialities is fresh seafood. The snack area at the pier at the end of Sanmin Road is budget-friendly, while the seafood restaurants around the Sanmin Road Fishermen's Association Supermarket are more upscale. The taste is equally good at both.
