## About Orange Isle Scenic Area

Mao Zedong wrote the poem “Qinyuan Chun · Changsha”, which includes the lines “Standing alone in the cold autumn, the Xiang River flows north past Orange Isle. I see the mountains dyed red with frost and the layered forests stained with color.” The Orange Isle mentioned here is a roughly 5-kilometre-long island in the middle of the Xiang River within Changsha's urban area, and it is one of the city's most important scenic spots. Orange Isle has long enjoyed a great reputation. The gentle current of the Xiang River flows past it, and the island's scenery changes with each season.

## Tips from the guidebook

- 1. Evening Snow over the River and Sky: This is one of the Eight Views of Xiaoxiang, a famous set of scenic motifs. “Evening Snow over the River and Sky” refers to the winter scenery of Orange Isle. If you are in Changsha in winter, it is worth going to see it.
- 2. Town Treasure: The simple old hackberry tree at the head of Orange Isle is the island's only hackberry. Young Mao Zedong and his close friends once spent time under this tree, “pointing out the mountains and rivers, inspiring writing”. Today it is regarded as the island's “town treasure”.
