## About Niru Village

Located in the heart of the “Three Parallel Rivers” region, this Tibetan village of just 106 households and 643 people boasts high mountain gorges, glaciers and snow peaks, alpine wetlands, forest meadows, and glacial lakes. People call it “the last hidden paradise of Shangri-La,” an ecological Eden that brings together nearly every type of natural landscape found in the Northern Hemisphere, apart from deserts and oceans.

## Tips from the guidebook

- 1. Crossing Nanbao Pasture and Dijitang Pasture takes about 3 days. Conditions are harsh, with many steep sections that require dismounting and walking, and most of the route lies above 3,800 metres. Be prepared to rough it.
- 2. There are only a few overnight stops on the mountain, mostly simple wooden-and-stone huts used by herders as temporary shelters. Bring your own tent and sleeping bag, and enough supplies, especially high-calorie food, as well as Rhodiola or other medicine to ease altitude sickness.
