## About Nanwan Monkey Island

Nanwan Monkey Island is China’s only island-based macaque nature reserve, home to more than 1,800 macaques. Across the water is the Hailing Pearl Farm, where you can enjoy the thrill of opening oysters to find pearls. The “water restaurant” at the foot of the mountain is also worth a visit, as it serves what is truly the “Best Congee Under Heaven.”

## Tips from the guidebook

- Food and Specialties
- 1. Be sure to try the seafood here: abalone, crab, mussels, lobster and sea urchin.
- 2. Coconut carvings and pearls from white butterfly shells are excellent.
- Danjia Fishing Rafts (疍家渔排)
- The Danjia people have lived on boats for generations, born and raised aboard. The Danjia fishing rafts form a floating fishing village not far from Nanwan Monkey Island. Today, a range of marine activities has developed here, including raft fishing, shellfish gathering at low tide and sleeping in hammocks over the sea.
