## About Nanchan Temple Scenic Area

Nanchan Temple was first built during the reign of Emperor Wu of Liang and is one of the 480 temples of the Southern Dynasties, now 1,450 years old. The temple is grand in scale and known as “the finest monastery in Jiangnan.” East of the temple stands the Miaoguang Pagoda, built in the Northern Song dynasty and over a thousand years old. Bronze wind bells hang from its eaves, and the line “Ten li away, the sound of golden bells is heard; in mid-sky, a jade dragon swoops down” describes Nanchan Temple. It is one of the Eight Scenes of Wuxi.
