## About Mount Qingcheng

“Cave Paradise and Blessed Land,” “Earthly Paradise” and “The Most Secluded Place Under Heaven” are all used to praise Mount Qingcheng, and few can resist its charm. Mount Qingcheng is one of the birthplaces of Taoism in China and is a famous Taoist mountain. It is divided into the Front Mountain and the Back Mountain. The Front Mountain boasts beautiful scenery and numerous cultural relics. The Back Mountain’s natural scenery is mysterious and enchanting, primitive and splendid, like a peach-blossom paradise removed from the world. Only by reaching the Back Mountain will you understand the meaning of “the most secluded place under heaven.” It seems the tranquility of the entire Chengdu Plain originates from here.

## Tips from the guidebook

- 1. Heavenly Master Cave: About 2 kilometers west of the “Natural Painting” scenic spot is Mount Qingcheng’s main temple, Heavenly Master Cave. Inside are statues of the “Heavenly Master” Zhang Daoling and his 30th-generation descendant, Xujing. Among the stone and wooden steles from various dynasties preserved in the hall, the most famous include a Tang Dynasty imperial edict stele inscribed by Emperor Xuanzong, and Yue Fei’s handwritten Former and Latter Memorials on the Campaign by Zhuge Liang.
- 2. Back Mountain food: On the Back Mountain, you can ride a bamboo sedan chair up the mountain. The Back Mountain’s old cured pork and snow-water pickles are well worth trying.
