## About Mount Fortress (Monte Fort)

Monte Fort sits atop Shishan (Persimmon Hill) in the centre of the Macau Peninsula, beside the Ruins of St. Paul's. It is also known as St. Paul's Fort, Central Fort Hill, or Da Sanba Fort. The fort is irregular in shape, with four corner bastions projecting outward, and could mount as many as 32 cannons. It is one of China's oldest Western-style forts, and it played an important role in 1622 in repelling a Dutch invasion. Today, Monte Fort offers an excellent 360-degree panorama of Macau.
