## About Mohe Arctic Village

Every year, visitors from across the country and around the world come here in different seasons. It is cold here almost all year round: summer lasts only about half a month, while winter lasts around 10 months. Around the summer solstice, the Aurora Festival turns the village into a “city that never sleeps” for tourists, reporters and photography enthusiasts, and the midnight sun is a spectacle that appears every year. Oh, and don't forget to visit the Arctic Geomagnetic Observatory of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

## Tips from the guidebook

- 1. Long journey: Mohe is very far away. Even by train from Qiqihar, China's northernmost major city, the fastest trip takes about 15 hours.
- 2. Route: You can first travel to Harbin, then take a train to Jagdaqi (加格达奇), the capital of the Greater Khingan Range Prefecture. The fastest trip takes about 9 hours, with hard-seat and hard-sleeper fares of ¥98 and ¥171 respectively. From Jagdaqi, transfer to a train to Mohe City, where buses run to Mohe Township (the Arctic Village) and Luogu River Village.
- 3. Reception: The Tourism Bureau in Xilinji Town, Mohe City, can arrange visits to the Arctic Village.
- 4. Postcards: Don't forget to send a postcard to friends and family from the northernmost post office inside the Arctic Village. It usually arrives in about 15 days.
- 1. The area is remote, so it is recommended to join a tour, hire a car through a travel agency or drive yourself.
- 2. There are more than 900 steps, which is very tiring! If you enjoy hiking, it is well worth it; the scenery makes for beautiful photos.

### First Bend of the Heilongjiang River

The First Bend is an Ω-shaped river bend formed where the Heilongjiang River, flowing from its source, passes through the Hongqiling section. Its landscape is unique and majestic. Each season brings a different scene, and from the summit you can take in the full panorama of the broad, sweeping river, which is truly spectacular.
