## About Meinong Hakka Town

Since 1736, Hakka settlers have established the village of "Mi-nong Zhuang" here, and it has preserved the traditions and essence of Hakka culture to this day. It is one of the best-preserved Hakka towns in Taiwan. Meinong was once known as the "Tobacco Kingdom." Although the tobacco industry has gradually declined, the town continues to attract visitors with its distinctive Hakka character.

## Tips from the guidebook

- Meinong Oil-Paper Umbrellas: Meinong's oil-paper umbrellas inherit the characteristics of Chaozhou umbrellas from Guangdong. They are meticulously crafted, with elegant, classic patterns on the canopy. Meinong now has several umbrella workshops, and the Guangrongxing Umbrella Factory on the shore of Zhongzheng Lake is the most famous. It is an excellent place to choose handicrafts as gifts for friends and family.
