## About Kinmen

Kinmen was once a battleground for defending against Japanese pirates (wokou), and a visit here is mainly about its wartime landscapes. Notable sights include Mashan Observation Post, Juguang Tower and the Guningtou Battle History Museum. Kinmen is close to Xiamen and Quanzhou and has grown popular with visitors in recent years.

## Tips from the guidebook

- Getting to and from Kinmen: 1. You can fly to Kinmen. Kinmen Shangyi Airport currently has flights to Taipei, Taichung, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung and other cities, and the journey generally takes 40–50 minutes.
- 2. Regular ferry services run between Kinmen's Shuitou Commercial Port and Xiamen's Heping Pier, with a sailing roughly every hour. The Quanjin route currently operates four sailings a day.
- Oyster noodles (海蚵面线): A must-try local dish in Kinmen, made with sea oysters and pork intestines. Many shops in Kinmen sell oyster noodles. They all offer generous portions and great flavour, so pick any one to sample.
