## About Great Mosque

The inscriptions on the entrance plaque of the Datong Great Mosque are carved in Chinese characters, and the overall architecture retains the style of ancient Chinese timber buildings while also showing features of Arab culture. According to the “Imperial Edict Mosque Stele” re-erected in 1742, the mosque was founded in 628, making it nearly 1,400 years old. Most of the surviving structures date from the Qing dynasty.
