## About Gaomei Wetlands

This area was once the riverbed of the Dajia River, and it took the efforts of early settlers to reclaim the land into the landscape you see today. Gaomei's most striking features are its sunset views and rich wildlife, making it a rising favourite among photographers and birdwatchers.

## Tips from the guidebook

- 1. Visit Gaomei on a clear day: the sunset here is one of Taichung's scenic highlights, most beautiful in fine weather, and you can also spot many waterbirds.
- 2. Lighthouse: Gaomei's lighthouse is the only one in Taiwan that is not all white. Its red-and-white stripes make it perfect for a photo.
- 3. Windmills: The windmills here are not just for show. They are a symbol of Gaomei, and each one cost NT$100 million.
