## About Furong Town

Furong Town, formerly known as Wangcun, is a classic ancient town of western Hunan. Tujia stilt houses and bluestone-paved lanes are everywhere, and wandering here in the fine drizzle is a particularly memorable experience. The film *Furong Town* was shot here, and the town was renamed in its honour.

## Tips from the guidebook

- 1. Local Food: At the entrance to the old town is a rice tofu (mi doufu) shop that appears in the film. Its owner is certainly no longer the actress Liu Xiaoqing, the "Tofu Beauty" of the film, yet the shop still bears the name "Liu Xiaoqing Rice Tofu Shop".
- 2. Xizhou Bronze Pillar: Inside the Wangcun Folk Customs Museum stands a hollow bronze pillar. This is the famous Xizhou Bronze Pillar of western Hunan, the marker set up in 940 by Ma Xifan, King of Southern Chu, and Peng Shichou, Prefect of Xizhou, to demarcate their boundary. Today it is an important relic for studying the history of the region's ethnic minorities.
