## About Dzong Hill Anti-British Site (Zongshan)

I have forgotten the lyrics of the song that Ningjing sings atop the castle in the film *Red River Valley*, but its beauty is beyond words. The sprawling Zongshan Fortress still stands on the mountaintop, its ridges as sharp and craggy as an eagle's wings.
In 1904, British forces invaded Tibet. Tibetan soldiers and civilians stationed in Gyantse built fortifications on the steep Zongshan Hill and held out for eight months with bows, arrows and Tibetan knives. When they ran out of ammunition and food, the brave fighters charged into the enemy ranks, while the wounded leapt from the cliffs and died for their country.
