## About Dengying Gorge

As the boat crosses the Yangtze, if the angle is right, you can see four huge rocks on the cliff top that look remarkably like the four pilgrims of the classic novel: Tang Monk, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie and Sha Monk, uncannily lifelike. Because they resemble shadow-puppet figures when lit by the setting sun, locals call them the 'shadow-play' (dengying zi xi), which gave the gorge its name, Dengying Gorge.
