## About Dapeng Fortress

Dapeng Fortress was a coastal defence stronghold in southern China during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and it still preserves its charming old city gates, watchtowers, streets and residences. Shenzhen's nickname, “Peng City” (鹏城), comes from here. During the Ming dynasty, the fortress produced many famous generals, such as Wulüe General Liu Zhong and the Lai family's “five generals across three generations”, earning it the nickname “Village of Generals”. Visitors can see many former generals' residences as well as relics related to coastal defence.

## Tips from the guidebook

- Jiaochangwei Beach, 500 metres from Dapeng Fortress, has beautiful scenery and a long, narrow stretch of sand, making it a great spot for beach fun. In recent years, many guesthouses have opened around Jiaochangwei, so accommodation is very convenient.
