## About Buddha's Palm Sand Dunes

Buddha’s Palm Sand Dunes lie on the north bank of the Yarlung Tsangpo in Danniang Township, Milin City. Their shape, together with their reflection on the river, resembles a Buddha’s palm pressed together in prayer, hence the name. Located in a strong wind corridor on the middle and lower reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo, the dunes have been battered by gales blowing with hurricane-like force from late autumn to late spring. River sand exposed during the dry season is blown, carried and piled up year after year, forming this unique landform. Within Milin’s section of the Yarlung Tsangpo, its scale is second only to the Wolong Big Sand Dune.
