## About Bawangling

Surrounded by tropical primeval forest stretching for dozens of kilometres, Bawangling is home to more than 1,400 species of precious trees. Some of the timber used for the Tiananmen Gate Tower in Beijing came from here. The area also abounds in tropical orchids, such as the five-lip orchid, ivory orchid and winter wind orchid.

## Tips from the guidebook

- Nature Reserve: Near Bawangling is the Futou Mountain Nature Reserve (斧头山自然保护区), which is similarly blanketed by forest as far as the eye can see. It is also home to the endangered Hainan black crested gibbon.
