## About Alashan Hot Spring

“Alashan” means “hot spring valley” in Mongolian. It lies 140 km north of Fuhai and 60 km south of Altay, in Kalamaigai Township. Hire a car to Kalamaigai Township, then rent a horse to ride up to the hot springs. The valley has 24 hot and cold springs in total. The most famous hot springs are Heart Spring, Blood Spring, Cold Spring, Milk Spring, Stomach Spring and Snake Spring.

## Tips from the guidebook

- Hot springs: Heart Spring is an intermittent hot spring that seems to pump water out like the heartbeat of the earth, hence its name. Blood Spring gets its red water from the red-coloured cliffs around it. Cold Spring is cooler than the other springs, and its landmark is a huge spruce tree growing in the spring. Milk Spring erupts intermittently with milky-white water, like milk squirting from a cow. Stomach Spring is said to cure stomach ailments. Snake Spring is named after two snakes that are unafraid of people and often bathe in its waters. Hot spring bathhouses have been built around the springs. The valley is beautiful and rich in vegetation, making it a fine place to relax after a tiring journey.
