## About ★

If you had to choose one building to represent modern Shanghai, it would have to be Jin Mao Tower. This glass-and-steel tower stands 420.5 metres tall with 88 floors, ranking second in China and fourth in the world by height. Unlike ancient pagodas, this "tower" is best known for being awe-inspiring! It gives you a vivid sense of the power of money.

## Tips from the guidebook

- 1. A souvenir from the sky: The 88th-floor observation hall also houses what is China's highest "Sky Post Office." Sending a postcard to a friend, or to yourself, makes a lovely keepsake.
- 2. Experience the elevator: If you're a fan of high-speed lifts, it's worth riding the Jin Mao Tower elevator. Travelling at 9.1 metres per second, it takes just 45 seconds to go from the 1st floor to the 88th.
- 3. Time tunnel: The atrium bar on the 56th floor of Jin Mao Tower is a great place to relax. The atrium of the Grand Hyatt Jin Mao is called a "time tunnel" by its architects. Order a coffee and soak up the atmosphere of big-city Shanghai.
- 4. Walking among the clouds: Jin Mao Tower has the highest open-air skywalk of any skyscraper in the world. If you're feeling very brave, you can pay ¥288 to take on the extreme challenge of walking outdoors at 340 metres. Those who succeed receive an official commemorative certificate.
